Obedience

Teach me, O God, to wait
Each morn for Thy behest,
Pause in the holy hush, till dawns
In thought Thy clear request.

Should it be "Forward go!"
Then help me, Love divine,
To take the step courageously,
Knowing 'tis Thy design.

Or should it be "Stand still!"
Then help me, Father dear,
Quiet to stand, rejoicingly,
Patient and free from fear.

All that I need each day,
Thy wisdom doth bestow;
Father, I listen for Thy voice—
To "stand" or "forward go!"

Whate'er be Thy behest,
It will Thy blessing bring;
Mine to obey—aye, joyously—
All Thy commands, O King!
