[Original testimony in German]
About three years ago I attended a Wednesday evening...
About three years ago I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting with friends. It was the first time that I had heard of Christian Science. The testimonies of healing which were given on this occasion seemed to me at the time incomprehensible, improbable, and exaggerated, so that I went home with the firm resolve never again to visit a Christian Science service. I rejected everything that my friends wanted to tell me about it.
A year later our second child was born. Although the birth was comparatively normal, after about two months a severe abdominal complaint appeared, which was accompanied by excessive irritability and weakness. At this time great financial need made itself felt in our family, and on every side obstacles arose. Those were days of darkness and sadness.
In this most sore distress a loving God led me again to Christian Science, and, though slowly, step by step I was able to fathom the wonderful truth of divine Love and care. And so it is perhaps inconceivable that in spite of Christian Science I put myself under the treatment of a so-called specialist, who was going to heal me by rest cures, invigorating baths, diet, and various medicines. After three months the promised healing had not taken place, and things had taken a contrary turn. According to human opinion, I would bleed to death in a very short time. The doctor gave orders over the telephone for my immediate removal to a hospital, where injections were to be made in a last attempt to stop the bleeding. I rebelled at this, for taking leave of my two children seemed unbearable to me. The night before, as I lay awake in great hopelessness, I took the Bible and read prayerfully the healing of the woman who had suffered from a flow of blood twelve years. This reading in the Bible gave me a great sense of peace and the assurance that God alone could be my physician.
