From Letters, Substantially as Published

The statement by "Verity" in his letter in your issue of June 18, as to the view of the human body held by Christian Scientists, conveys a very erroneous impression of the teachings to Christian Science.

To the Christian Scientist the material body is the expression of thought, and on page 194 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, she writes: "A change in human belief changes all the physical symptoms, and determines a case for better or for worse. When one's false belief is corrected, Truth sends a report of health over the body."

Again, on page 477 of the same work, in answer to the question, "What are body and Soul?" Mrs. Eddy does not give a biological description of the human body, but states that "identity is the reflection of Spirit, the reflection in multifarious forms of the living Principle, Love." She thus turns the inquirer from the contemplation of the material to the spiritual.
