My first introduction to Christian Science came over sixteen...
My first introduction to Christian Science came over sixteen years ago, when my husband was healed of a chronic disease in one treatment by a practitioner. Upon inquiry I was told that it was all in a book by Mrs. Eddy. I obtained this book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," from the public library and began to read it, and was healed on the first day of drug taking and whiskey drinking, which had been considered necessary for my many physical ills. Continuing to study and practice Christian Science, I was healed of jaundice, appendicitis, chronic rheumatism, and annual attacks of influenza. These were all overcome without my spending a single day in bed or being hindered from doing my daily work, whereas before I had often spent days and weeks in bed. When threatened with the loss of my home, I relied entirely on God's law of universal harmony, and found that much discord had disappeared and that there was more harmony in the home. Waking one night with a sense of suffocation and unable to breathe, I looked to divine Principle for guidance and received the clear realization that Life is self-existent. Holding steadfastly to this thought, I felt no fear, although apparently not breathing for some time. Then falling asleep, I awakened in the morning to find I was freed from the belief of death. The desire for tea and coffee has also disappeared.
The wonderful freedom which Christian Science gives makes me very grateful to our brave Leader and all loyal workers in the Cause; also for our Leader's writings and the authorized literature and lectures, which continually unfold more of Truth and Love. Class instruction, with the annual Association meetings, membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, with opportunity to serve in literature distribution, library, and Sunday school work, have all been happy experiences; also the joy of helping others. But surely the greatest blessing of all is the ability to understand the meaning and purpose of Life as found in the Bible, when read in the light of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Catharina M. Beute Hall, Shirley, Surrey, England.
I should like to confirm my wife's testimony.
I came into Christian Science about sixteen years ago. I was to mortal sense in a very bad way, suffering from Bright's disease. Some friends told me of Christian Science and recommended that I visit a Christian Science practitioner, which I did, and through his loving work I was instantly healed of my complaint. Previously, I had been given up by doctors, who held out very little hope for me. I have not had a doctor since that time and have not had a day away from business.
Needless to say, I cannot express my gratitude in words, but I am more grateful than I can say for the wonderful understanding Science gives us of what God is; also for the practical way it helps us in everyday affairs when we seem up against very difficult problems. It helps us to see the real man; and when I can see man in God's image and likeness and not the grumbling mortal man, I usually make the demonstration. I am a commercial traveler, and again and again I am able to overcome the unreal by seeing man as perfect and complete.
I should like to express my gratitude for membership in The Mother Church, also a branch church; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.—John G. Hall.
