About ten years ago I was foolish enough to visit a fortune teller, who predicted for me sickness and operations. I brooded over this because I had already undergone one operation and still suffered the same pains as before. I worried so much that finally I prayed to God to give me some sign that there was a God and that He heard me. Soon after this I was invited to attend a Christian Science service. Out of curiosity I went, and was so impressed that I continued attending. Then I began reading the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and one day I discovered that I had lost those pains that had been worrying me for so long, and that gnawing fear which was wearing me down. I also had lost a severe cough which had been with me for a considerable time, and for which I had taken numerous material remedies without result. Surely this was proof that I was led to Christian Science.
For many years I had been a heavy cigarette smoker, and although I had tried hard to give up this habit I could not do so. The day after my first visit to a Christian Science service I was able to give up the smoking, and I have not had the desire for a cigarette since.
I am profoundly grateful for these healings, for the kindness and patience of the Christian Science practitioners, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement.—(Mrs.) Valerie M.G. Tanner, Wellington, New Zealand.
