In the Manual of The Mother Church (p. 47) Mrs. Eddy...
In the Manual of The Mother Church (p. 47) Mrs. Eddy has included a By-Law which gives us the privilege of sending our grateful thanks to be published in the periodicals. It is with a deep sense of appreciation that I avail myself of this opportunity to give thanks to our loving Father-Mother God for His great goodness to us; to Jesus, the Way-shower, for his demonstration of the Christ, Truth, which he has left to guide us; and to our beloved Leader for her devotion to God, which resulted in the great gift to mankind of her revelation of Christian Science.
Christian Science found me practically at the point of atheism. My deep need for a knowledge and understanding of God was met through the help of a dear friend who pointed the way for me. She gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and after reading the chapter on Prayer I was so impressed that I turned to the chapter entitled "Fruitage," in which I read many testimonies of people who were healed by reading this book. As I continued to read, I discovered that a pain which had been growing in my side had suddenly left me. This healing was all the more wonderful to me because I had not been seeking physical improvement, but was reaching out for God.
My desire to learn more about God prompted me to apply for membership in The Mother Church. The demonstration of branch church membership came to me at a later time, after a period of many trials and blessings, during which the sustaining power and love of God were proved to me constantly. I am very grateful for the healing of the thoughts of resistance to this step and for the study and work at that time, together with the spiritual influence on my thinking of the truth learned in the Reading Rooms, the services, and the literature. The greatest blessing which I have received has unfolded to me in this demonstration, and that is the opportunity for work in the Sunday school.
