One of my greatest causes for gratitude is the instruction...

One of my greatest causes for gratitude is the instruction I had in a Christian Science Sunday School during the impressionable early years of my life. It has formed for me the foundation upon which to prove the power of Mind, God, in the destruction of the suggestions of evil.

Christian Science came into our home before I was born, when my mother experienced a healing of a serious throat condition. At this time also my brother, then in infancy, was healed of stomach trouble. For six weeks he had been on a diet of water and medicine with no apparent relief. Treatment was sought in Christian Science, and in one hour he was completely normal. Notwithstanding such evidence, Christian Science was not accepted by our family as a whole. A belief that a change of climate was necessary to my father's health caused a removal to the country. Adverse financial conditions began to make themselves seriously felt, and to support his family my father was forced to do work to which he was unaccustomed. A well-known quotation reads, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity;" and after many other trials my people resumed earnest study of Christian Science. I am grateful for this, inasmuch as it was the means of ushering me into this great truth about God and His creation.

I should like to speak of a healing which I experienced a few years ago while my parents were away from home. Relatives, who were not then interested in Christian Science, came to stay with my brother and me. During that time one of my knees became inflamed and swollen. I treated myself as we are taught to do in Christian Science and protected myself so that those around me knew nothing of what was taking place. The inflammation subsided, and the healing was completed in a few days. I was healed of measles in less than twelve hours. Mumps and stiff muscles were also healed in a very short time. Through the application of Christian Science my schoolwork was made much simpler. I could enumerate many more blessings, but shall deem it sufficient to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her wisdom, perseverance, and ability to give to us this revelation of Truth. I am also very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, together with the privilege of activity therein; and for serving in an official capacity in the Sunday school, from which I derived much good.
