Although I had known many people who were students...
Although I had known many people who were students of Christian Science, and thoroughly respected their religion, I did not feel the need of it for myself until every material remedy that was suggested to me had failed. For several years I had suffered from a condition of the ears, presumed to be a result of scarlet fever. I decided to see a practitioner with whom I had become acquainted; and after one treatment I had a feeling of buoyancy and freedom which I had never experienced before. I did not realize what had brought it about, and it was not until two years later that I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest.
My ears discharged almost constantly, and I was very uncomfortable and irritable and at times in great pain. I had help for about three months from another practitioner, but the physical condition did not yield readily because of much wrong thinking to be overcome. I gave up the treatments, but because I knew that a great change had taken place in my thinking I continued to study, realizing that the physical condition could and would be overcome. The healing was completed, and although it seemed slow, I was never tempted to return to materia medica, for I had learned that it is divine Love that heals.
I am grateful for this healing and for many others that I have had through Christian Science. I am grateful for the writings of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school.
