The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
MELBOURNE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA (First Church).
Lecturer: Miss Margaret Murney Glenn; introduced by Miss Esther A. Price, who said:—
You will recall that the greatest event in human history, which dates our Christian era, was heralded by a star in the East, which certain Wisemen saw; and because they were wise men they followed it, until it led them to where the young child lay—that child whose teaching, if followed, was to bring "on earth peace, good will toward men"—in other words, the solving of all earth's problems.
My friends, do you realize that you are the wise men of today? Yes, truly, because some star—some gleam of pure spiritual light or desire—has arisen in your consciousness; and because you are wise, you have followed it, logically reasoned with it, until it has led you here today. And I know that as you listen to this lecture, which is entitled "The Revelation of Love as Divine Principle," and you learn the truth about God, and your own real individuality, you will realize that you have indeed come upon the "pearl of great price" for which you, too, will be willing to sell all that you have of old beliefs. As you recognize this "pearl," examine it, put it to the test in your every experience, you will thus prove for yourself that it is the universal panacea—the one thing needful, even that spiritual economy for which a weary, material world is so blindly searching.
BANGOR, MAINE (First Church).
Lecturer: Rev. Irving C. Tomlinson; introduced by Mrs. Lula W. Morse, who said:—
More than anything else today the world needs a better understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him, an assurance that the promises of the Bible are practical and capable of proof, and that "underneath are the everlasting arms." Christian Science supplies this need, bringing to us a concept of God as ever present and all-loving, and of man as always reflecting the divine perfection. God's law of infinite good is ever operative and available for everyone.
