I want to express my gratitude for a healing I received...
I want to express my gratitude for a healing I received and for the loving service given me by a Christian Science practitioner. In November, 1926, my health gave way. I called in the local doctor, who diagnosed my case as heart trouble with nervous prostration. After treatment with him for some time without any good results, I decided to o to a city hospital and see a heart specialist. He could not do anything for me and sent me home, stating that it was doubtful that I should get there alive. I got home and began treatment with the local physician again. I then lost the use of my lower limbs and was confined to bed for four years, a part of which time I could not even feed myself. The doctor was of the impression that I could not live much longer, and my friends expected me to pass on at any moment. At this time also my feet began to trouble me seriously, and the doctor stated that I should never be able to walk again.
It was while I was in this condition that a Christian Science practitioner, who heard of my trouble, came to visit me and told me of this wonderful truth about God, and man in His image and likeness, and I decided then to place my trust in God as definitely as I had previously relied on medicine and the doctors. The visit took place on a Sunday early in January, and although it was the coldest period of the winter, on Wednesday I got up and before a week had passed I walked downtown and back, a distance of about nine blocks. From that time on I made daily trips to attend to any necessary affairs.
The following spring I worked in a cedar yard, peeling posts and poles, and since then I have done all kinds of hard work, including the cutting down of large trees for cordwood, grubbing new ground for gardens, and doing all the work necessary about a large garden. At the time of my healing, the tobacco habit of forty years' standing left me, and none of the old ills has returned. I am now past seventy-two years of age and can truthfully say I have not had to go to bed on account of sickness since my healing, nor have I taken a drop of medicine.
