Unselfed Love

Christ Jesus stands through the centuries as the greatest man who ever lived. Why? Because his supremely unselfed love for God and man and his unparalleled works entitle him to this distinction. We gratefully accept him as our Way-shower, for his divinely inspired words reveal the one Mind, God, and his mighty works attest their truth.

How lovingly and undeviatingly our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in all her writings directs mankind to live as Jesus taught and practiced! With the spiritual discernment of one whose thought was held close to divine Love, and with the example of her own unusually unselfish life, she writes these words (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 238): "What has not unselfed love achieved for the race? All that ever was accomplished, and more than history has yet recorded."

Man's true selfhood is God's own likeness, perfect, harmonious, complete, eternal, coexistent with Him. What is the self we must abnegate? It is the false concept of material sense, the objectification of the carnal mind, subject to pain and pleasure, sin and sickness, discord and death—all that pertains to selfishness. If this false sense of self be undenied and cultivated, it results in such undesirable traits as faultfinding, willfulness, self-pity, rehearsing trouble and suffering, and the like.
