Eternal Truth

O blessed Truth, clothed in eternal light,
Come Thou, and shed on earth Thy lustrous rays,
And hasten to disperse the clouded days
So filled with formless void and darkest night.
Thou Word of Truth, forever put to flight
The mortal fears and dreams that throng the ways
Of human sense; and may a song of praise
Ascend on high, and glorify God's might.
So when the weary years their course have sped,
And lonely hearts gaze through time's senseless round,
Come then, and whisper reassuringly,
There is no mocking past, the dream is fled,
The ever-present now is here, and crowned
Supreme, to reign with Truth eternally.
