"Mind transcends all other power, and will ultimately...
"Mind transcends all other power, and will ultimately supersede all other means in healing" (Science and Health, p. 483). The truth of this statement by our Leader was recognized one day, about seven years ago, while I sat reading our textbook and pondering its purpose. At the time that this truth became apparent to me I was in my office, which I had occupied for over ten years in the practice of electrical therapeutics and chiropractic.
I read Science and Health to the exclusion of everything else in the line of reading material for several days, and during this time I was completely healed of the need of glasses which I had worn for over ten years. The lenses had been replaced with stronger ones several times during these years, with very little help to my eyes. I was also completely healed of the smoking habit, which had grown constantly more tenacious over a period of several years.
The honest logic and common sense which pervade Christian Science convinced me that I had been misled by the claims of other healing methods; and I immediately closed my office, which had brought me a liberal income for several years. I entered business, and my family and I have been beautifully cared for in accord with the statement, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). My wife and fourteen-year-old son have perceived the reason for my change of thought and are also relying on spiritual truth for their help in every need. I gained thirty pounds in weight during the first few weeks of study in Christian Science, and this has been followed by six years of normal health, which I attribute entirely to the right thinking resulting from the study and application of this Science.
