Appearing and Disappearing

Christian Science affects human consciousness as solar light affects the night; the incoming light of spiritual holiness causes the obscurity of sin to disappear. Christian Scientists are ready to testify that many undesirable traits which they formerly believed to be indelibly graven in their consciousness have utterly disappeared. But this is not enough. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 353), "All things will continue to disappear, until perfection appears and reality is reached." Not only some thing, but all things.

Inevitably, "the little foxes," the deceiving little concessions slyly masquerading as negligible, are brought out of their hiding places as we pursue our study of the Science of being and confess to ourselves that only that which reflects God, good, has any actual existence. This uncovering of subtle as well as aggressive errors should lead us to rejoice, for spiritual light causes falsity to vanish from thought and leaves us free to "walk as children of light." Spiritual understanding, eagerly increased, reaches the innermost recesses of our consciousness and dislodges the lurking dishonesty which perpetuates erroneous habits of thought and action. Truth admitted into our thought summarily arrests the course of error.

Is our gratitude for forward steps expanding to show us other forward steps as yet untaken in the overcoming of temptation, limitation, and mixed thinking? Whatever is incompatible with our spiritual progress must "continue to disappear." Do we seek the closer walk with God which ensures the increased appearing of spiritual dominion in our lives? Have we yet availed ourselves to the full of Truth's rectitude, Mind's intelligence, Love's hallowing influence?
