Maintenance of True Identity

To every student of Christian Science there are times when the fresh realization of the true nature of God and man lifts him so far above the beliefs of mortality that he experiences a measure of the joy of the consciousness of reality.

It is not infrequent that hard on the heels of this exalted sense there comes a period when the triad of suggestions known as sin, disease, and death opens what seems to be a veritable bombardment. Here the temptation to be discouraged may clamor for recognition, the old futile "why's" and "but's" claim indulgence. "Why, when we saw the truth so clearly yesterday, should we be confronted with this problem today?" "Why were we not more alert?" Such questions only waste time and lead one deeper into the maze of self-condemnation, the mesmerism of a personal sense of self. Self-condemnation never helps to solve a problem; for it is only when we see the error as outside ourselves, as suggestion, that we are free to handle it scientifically. The battle is between Truth and error and will go on until all error is overcome. It is only when we become deluded into believing that we are in some way identified with error that we become involved in a mental conflict.

What if evil seems to be claiming recognition as a part of one's experience. This is but an opportunity to utilize the truth that has been so clear in one's recent inspiration, and to strengthen one's understanding of the glorious truth through demonstration.
