Associates of Health

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE invites humanity to a fresh perspective of health, for it is doubtful whether any subject has received more attention than the subject of health with less satisfying results. However deep the investigations of material so-called science in its attempts to produce a formula which will assure perpetual health, the human body often does not conform to it. Remedies are proposed, accepted, and in turn discarded in much the same way as fashions change. Unnumbered have been the disappointments of those who, after years of patient research, have evolved what was believed to be the desired curative only to find that it could not always be counted on, and in the end had to be abandoned.

The difficulty from the start has been that in the thoughts of the experimenters health has been indissolubly linked with matter. Every road of research in some way began with the material body, and consequently ended with the body after either climbing an unavailing mountain of hope or descending into a valley of despair.

Mary Baker Eddy's discovery of Christian Science has thrown new light on the question of health, with the result that the physical conditions of those under its influence have steadily grown more harmonious. Her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," on page 120 teaches, "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind." This radical assertion, accepted and applied, would mean the discarding of all material aids to health and a turning away from the body as a proper index of health. Mind is Spirit, and therefore health is wholly spiritual.
