Before taking up the study of Christian Science about...
Before taking up the study of Christian Science about seven years ago I was practically an invalid and suffered almost continually from kidney and bladder trouble, with other complications, the result of many operations. I could not sleep day or night, and in my despair I doubted if there really was a God, having prayed for help so often without results. Christian Science has taught me how to pray and receive results, for which I am very grateful.
After all material means had failed, including five major operations, X-ray, serums, electric treatments, massage, exercise, dieting, and chiropractic treatments, I was left in despair of ever being well again, until one day a friend asked me to try Christian Science. That night I called a practitioner, who worked for me every day for two months. While there was some improvement I was not healed; but I kept up the study, having the practitioner work at times, and at other times trying to use what understanding I had. Hatred and resentment were cast out of my thinking, but still I did not receive my healing.
As all material methods had been tried and failed, I knew Christian Science was my only hope of healing, so I did not yield to discouragement, but pressed forward, knowing God would show me the way. I had had many proofs of the power of Christian Science to cure physical ills, having healed myself of a badly sprained ankle about the second week of my study. These proofs were as a staff to lean upon during the dark and fear-filled day that followed. I had also seen other healings, of influenza, colds, burns, headaches, nausea, and other ills. A friend had been healed in two treatments of a painful bone felon, and a little child had been instantaneously healed of fever. But neither the practitioner nor I seemed able to see through or unsee this painful condition in my consciousness.
