[Editorial in the Frederick Leader, Oklahoma]

It is well occasionally for a people to examine the source of its creation, to take time to trace the path it has come, and the influences that have helped to bring and preserve its national entity. . . .

The character of Washington was . . . deeply imbued with faith in God, and therefore in the ultimate triumph of the right. That was evident from his earliest youth. His was not a character free from ordinary human passions and weaknesses—but it was a character in which was examplified the great reserve power which comes to a man who first conquers himself. Washington was his own master before he attempted to become the master of others. The commands which were offered him at various stages of his career and which he accepted so humbly and fulfilled so well, were due to the knowledge that his neighbors had of his self-control and his prudence as well as of his valor, his ability, and his indomitable courage. . . .
