Christian Science has helped me so much that I feel I must express my gratitude. Although I was very loath at first to have anything to do with this Science, as I thought it could benefit only those who were lacking in will-power, I have since proved that when rightly applied it is a remedy for all ills, physical and mental.

When I began to study Christian Science earnestly, about five years ago, I was in great need of physical healing, as I was suffering severely from colitis, ulcers of the bowels, and other complications. I had been an invalid for more than eight years, spending more time in bed than out. I had undergone three surgical operations and was having the very best medical attention it was possible to have, but all to no avail. In fact, the doctor had given me up to die when a loving Christian Science practitioner was called in. I did not expect to be healed, but consented to see this practitioner to satisfy my mother, who had faith that I could be helped by Christian Science. I shall never forget the first visit of the practitioner, to whom I can never be sufficiently grateful. She seemed to radiate peace and happiness. She talked to me so lovingly of God that I remember saying to her, "Yes, but you love God and I do not." Her answer was, "When you understand God as I do, you will love Him too." I wondered then if that would be possible, for I had reached a stage where I felt that if god could allow such suffering to come to His children as I was then enduring, I did not wish to know more about Him.

Work in Christian Science was commenced for me, and the night after the first treatment I slept soundly, a thing I had been unable to do for some time. Words are inadequate to express the joy and gratitude I felt on awakening the following morning, for I was ever so much better and happier. The improvement continued, and I spent nearly all my time reading and studying the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In eight days I was able to be up and dressed, and to walk about, having proved true the words on page 425 of the textbook, "Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered," for I had discarded a very uncomfortable abdominal belt which I was advised to wear always. In six months I had returned to my occupation, much to the surprise of many of my colleagues, who had never expected me to lead an active life again. I have been working ever since.
