I should like to relate how wonderfully I found the way...
I should like to relate how wonderfully I found the way to Christian Science. For eight years I was afflicted with an internal complaint (a severe abdominal trouble resulting from the birth of my son) which had become aggravated with the years. Finally I was hardly able to lean over, and every step caused me pain. Around Christmas time in 1928 I was again seized with severe pain. As always, I went to a doctor. He told me that an operation was necessary and referred me to a second physician. Great anxiety came over me, and in this state of error we spent the holidays. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 2), "The desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void." I had a feeling that there must be a way out, for I did not wish to go to the hospital. On December 28 I called on the second physician, who found still more things the matter with me. However, he was going to try X-ray treatment before he resorted to an operation.
On the way home I met a neighbor who asked me about the doctor's verdict, for she knew I had consulted him. I told her about it, and she said, "I know a physician who makes you well without an operation or X-ray treatment." This was Christian Science, and I turned to it and help was lovingly given me. In a very short time I was healed. I attended the Sunday services and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings and carefully read the textbook, and thus acquired a firm trust in this teaching. I learned to know that God is Truth, and that Truth can cause on pain; that it is not the body but mortal thought which is sick; and that as man is God's reflection only spiritual, perfect man can in reality be expressed. As we read on page 1 of Science and Health, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."
My son is now eleven years old. Up to his eighth year he had mastoiditis ten times. Three years ago he was healed of this trouble through Christian Science, and it has never returned. During this short period of time this truth has brought many experiences and blessings to our family.
