Courage and Dominion

COURAGE is a valuable asset in winning the victory over evil. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 406), "Resist evil—error of every sort—and it will flee from you." This statement rouses thought to the possibility of overcoming evil, whether in the form of sin or of sickness, which, if accepted, would limit one's consciousness of man's God-given heritage of dominion, expressed in freedom, health, helpfulness, joy, and progress.

The only reason why an otherwise righteously minded person is tempted to be disheartened and lose courage is that he fears that evil is more powerful than good. Through the study of Christian Science, however, he learns that God is good and the only power, and that evil is merely a counterfeit, simulating power. After this truth has been acknowledged, it remains to be proved in daily experience.

Many who are working patiently and persistently on the side of right long for more courage. "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart" are the words of the Psalmist. God, good, upholds right desire and honest endeavor. The individual in search of divine qualities should look to God and find in infinite Mind the dauntless courage which is capable of transforming his consciousness. It is God who provides the supply of true ideas with which to annihilate error. When consciously allied to divine power, the student of Christian Science finds evil's suppositional power lessening, and discovers by degrees the real man's invincibility.
