Today Christian Scientists are given greater opportunity...
Today Christian Scientists are given greater opportunity than ever before for proving the allness of God, good. They are profoundly grateful for Christian Science, which Mrs. Eddy has given to this age through the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her numerous other writings; thus making known to all her followers, through the spiritual interpretation of the Bible, the healing truth as taught by our Master, Christ Jesus.
I am sincerely grateful for having learned in Christian Science that we do not have to wait until all our difficulties have been overcome and our problems wholly solved before we can experience good. I have frequently demonstrated this in connection with the trials of the prolonged economic crisis, to which has been added the care of a mother well advanced in years. Most wonderful and unexpected have been the manifestations to me and mine of divine Love meeting all our needs.
If space allowed I could tell more fully how financial difficulties are being met and depression overcome, through the recognition of "the supporting influence and protecting power bestowed on man by his heavenly Father, omnipotent Mind" (Science and Health, p. 387). I can never be sufficiently grateful for having learned through Christian Science what true inheritance, income, and substance are; also for the loyal service of the practitioners, whom I have ever found most instant to respond at any time of doubt and trouble. A few of my most outstanding healings and experiences may serve to convey in some slight measure the debt of gratitude I owe to the teachings of this Science.
At the time of the passing on of my devoted husband, a practitioner and other Christian Science friends most lovingly sustained me throughout this sorrow and seeming loss of a dear companion, by helping me to know that "all is Life, and there is no death" (ibid., p. 331). Healings which I recall as being complete and permanent have been of a nervous breakdown, chronic biliousness and its attendant severe headaches, and laryngitis; also a case of eczema in its most virulent form, of two years' duration. For several months I had been in the hands of two very eminent and kindly skin specialists who did everything they could to alleviate the disease. After seven months of these consultations, in sheer desperation I once again turned to a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to help. She most lovingly promised to do so if I would give up all the lotions, ointments, medicine, and routine that had been prescribed by the physicians. This I instantly decided to do, but not without having to meet a fearful protest from a member of my family, who said that the decision was wrong, and he would not hold himself responsible for any unhappy result. From then on until the complete healing had been accomplished in less than two months, through the faithful work of the practitioner and sincere efforts on my own part, there was not the slightest desire to return to the doctors or to any material remedy.
For a business enterprise most satisfactorily maintained during a period of ten years I am also grateful; as well as for the successful sale of country property, with agreeable and harmonious results to all concerned; and for protection from various accidents, particularly on two occasions when the ceilings fell. In both instances those who saw the debris, and found me wholly unscathed, marveled at the escape. Just before the ceilings fell, I had been much impressed with statements in our textbook and in the Psalms, and through these I had, when each of the accidents occurred, clearly realized the presence of God.
For manifold other blessings, including membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, I am profoundly grateful; also for the many wonderful and increasing activities of The Mother Church, especially the erection of the new Publishing House in these times; and for the constantly awakening sense of the benefits and blessings that come through the teachings of Christian Science.
