Sincere gratitude impels me to tell of a healing through Christian Science. Five years ago, while working on a scaffolding, I suffered an accident, injuring my spine. I was taken to a hospital and examined by a physician. After three weeks I was able to walk by leaning on a wheel chair and was brought home. But I had to visit the accident-insurance doctors each week, until finally I was told I must wear strong stays reaching from under my arms to my hips, and that I might never again work at my trade as a mason, though perhaps I might do some easier work. I then tried to dispense with the stays, for with them I was still unable to lift any load and felt very uncomfortable. After consulting a nature-cure doctor, although my wish to dispense with the stays was fulfilled, I was kept on a strict diet and ate only fruit. After submitting to this treatment for seven months I saw that it could not heal me, for I was still as weak and helpless as I had been for a year and a half.

In the meantime a friend had inquired through an acquaintance whether I still believed in God, sending me at the same time a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel. The testimonies were read to me, as I was unable as yet to read English. A feeling of joy and hope came over me that now I had found the right physician, and all my trust was placed in God. On the following day I called on a Christian Science practitioner and asked for treatment, which was lovingly given. I attended Christian Science Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings regularly, and visited the practitioner every week. Through the understanding gained the healing progressed visibly, for Mrs. Eddy writes on page 99 of Science and Health, "Truth has furnished the key to the kingdom, and with this key Christian Science has opened the door of the human understanding." To my great surprise I was also healed during that time of the desire to smoke.

I am grateful to the practitioner for all the help given me, and grateful to the friend for sending me the glad message which drew my attention to Christian Science. I love and revere our dear Leader because of her pure life and selfless love in giving her followers an unfailing guide such as the Church Manual. I give all the glory to God.
