The notion that Christian Science is but a system of healing sickness without resort to drugs or other material aids is a wholly mistaken one. Healing physical sickness is no more the primary object of Christian Science than it was in the ministry of Jesus. It is true that healing physical sickness is included in the Christian Science teaching, and that it is a very important feature. Nevertheless, Christian Science is first and last a religion, and whatever beneficial effects ensue from its practice flow from its spiritual nature, and are the legitimate and inevitable results of that spirituality.

Healing in its truest and best signification is regeneration, or the salvation of mankind from those beliefs and misconceptions which bring with them a long train of illnesses, sorrows, troubles, and discords. Christian Science bids us lift our eyes to the summit of spiritual aspiration, whence cometh true strength.
