When I first heard of Christian Science I bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and thought it was very beautiful, but was unable to put it to practical use. As years went by and I ran the gamut of disillusion, pain, and misfortune, one thought remained buried deep in my consciousness. It was, When I am at the end of my tether, I will really try Christian Science. Nearly eight years ago I found myself in just that predicament. The result was a definite mental uprising. On the following Sunday I attended the local Christian Science church, and the rest is just a record of climbing into the light.

Various chronic complaints, such as gastritis, anaemia, bronchitis, and catarrh, have faded away as I have studied the textbook; and with them — significantly — have gone resentment, false responsibility, and inordinate ambition. A sense of chronic lack and ill health has given place to a realization of abundant supply and ever present good. Christian Science has taught me to rely on God alone for all my children's needs, and many an illness has been met overnight by realizing the truth so beautifully expressed in Mrs. Eddy's poems. Measles, chicken pox, whooping cough, blight, influenza, and other ills have been healed by the truth, often through the children's own understanding. We have been protected in accident and comforted in sorrow. In place of terror and confusion, a realization of part of Mrs. Eddy's interpretation of the twenty-third Psalm (Science and Health, p. 578), "I will dwell in the house [the consciousness] of [love] for ever," has established for us a joyful, harmonious, and peaceful sense of home which others recognize and enjoy.

Of many uplifting experiences I am most grateful for those which have clearly taught me needed lessons. One such occurred when I had been studying only a few months. My baby, about a year old, awoke one morning with her eyes quite closed, apparently suffering from blight. I knew that something was wrong with my thinking, and that God would not let the child suffer for my fault. From that time the baby seemed quite happy and free from pain, but her eyes remained closed. One night about a week after this, while earnestly praying for light, I suddenly remembered mentally criticizing a worker in the church who was wearing glasses. I humbly corrected my thought and went to sleep. In the morning, on washing the child's eyes, they were found to be perfectly healed. Later, I found that the one criticized had also made his demonstration of good sight, which doubled my gratitude to divine Love.
