Both you and "F. B." comment on the statement embraced...

H. N. P.'s Journal

Both you and "F. B." comment on the statement embraced in my reply to your article entitled "Faith." The following is offered to elucidate my point, that "Christian Scientists have no quarrel with the medical profession." In making this statement, I meant that we have no quarrel with their efforts. Mary Baker Eddy had great respect for the medical profession, and wished her students to have the same. In Christian Science, however, all disease is shown to have a mental origin, and it can therefore be removed by spiritual means, or prayer. The effectiveness of this method is proved by the many verbal testimonies given at the Wednesday evening meetings held in Christian Science churches throughout the world, and in the written testimonies published in the Christian Science periodicals, many of which state that the healing took place after medical treatment had been tried and abandoned.
