When first I heard of Christian Science, I was an active member of an orthodox church, trying to follow its teachings to the best of my ability, yet often puzzled, wondering why God punished me with such poor health. I had prayed often to be healed, but my prayers were not answered. About thirteen years ago, learning that a neighbor attended a Christian Science church, I asked permission to go with her, merely from curiosity, never thinking there would be anything in it for me. The first service I attended was a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and it was a feast I shall never forget.

I was suffering from gall-bladder colic. I had been operated upon for gallstones a few years before, but was still a great sufferer and constantly under a physician's care. This distressing condition gradually disappeared after I began in real earnest the study of the truth as taught in Christian Science. Gladly leaving the old paths for the new, I learned that God did not send sickness, sin, or death, but gave man dominion over every erroneous condition; that, instead of being a sick mortal, man in reality is God's perfect child and can reflect only His attributes. As fear was overcome and my understanding grew, I began to express real health and happiness.

One healing I should like to tell of took place one summer while I was away in the mountains. I was taken very ill with intestinal poisoning. After I had suffered for a week, as I was not able to help myself, my husband decided to take me home, although at the time it seemed almost impossible. After traveling all day, we arrived home on a Saturday evening. Sunday I seemed better, although very weak, but during the night I became worse again. Monday morning I called for help from one of our practitioners, and in a few hours I was free from the intestinal trouble. After calling for help, I received a telegram from my son, saying he would be home the following morning, but would leave again immediately on a trip, and would expect me to be ready to leave with him. Knowing he was expressing love in wanting to take me, I managed to shut out all fear and trusted in God to give me the needed strength to get ready. Mrs. Eddy, our dear Leader, tells us on page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I have found this to be true. Needless to say, I made the trip, traveling over the same country, going far beyond the place I had left a few days before, seemingly so ill. Five days later I returned in perfect harmony.
