My heart overflows with love and gratitude for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for her faithful followers, who are carrying on her work with such pure and unselfish lives, giving always of their "firstfruits" to God and help to mankind. I found Christian Science when everything seemed very dark to me, and I often longed to pass on, thinking I should be relieved, for I had tried, as near as I knew how, to serve God; but still there was always something missing.

A very dear neighbor, a Christian Scientist, one day offered me Christian Science when everyone thought I should pass on in spite of all the medical care and attention I was having; but being so engrossed in those material things I was not yet ready for the truth.

After undergoing two operations and being helpless for a year, I was given a rest cure of six weeks. At the end of that time I seemed worse; so I asked this dear neighbor for a guide to help me understand the Bible better, and she let me use her copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had read only a few lines in the chapter on Prayer when I discovered that Christian Science was what I had been hunting for all my life—namely, the truth that is again demonstrating the healing power Jesus taught while here on earth. I wrote and asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner over two hundred miles away, and in less than a week I was up and doing some of my work. I was also healed of wearing glasses.
