The reference made to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in last Saturday's weekly article, "The Diary of a Doctor," is likely to convey a false impression. The article refers to the superstitious beliefs of the "evil eye" and the "hoodoos" of natives, and then quotes a statement of Mrs. Eddy's as attributing power to a modern counterpart of these superstitions termed "malicious animal magnetism." Any such notion is opposed to the fundamental truth of Christian Science, namely, that God, good, is the only power, any seeming power possessed by evil being false belief. As understood in Christian Science evil is thus a false claim to power, to be unmasked and destroyed by the realization of man's dominion as the son of God. Christ Jesus indicated this mental process thus: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
