Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the...
Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This truth of which Jesus spoke is revealed through Christian Science, the study of which has indeed made me free—free from a weak and delicate constitution. When I was born I was so tiny and delicate I lay wrapped in cotton wool, and nourishment had to be rubbed into my body. In answer to the prayers of my parents I lived; but this weakness and delicacy continued, and was a constant obstruction in my way during childhood, and later, on several occasions, I resigned from positions because of it.
Ten years ago I began to study Christian Science, not for physical healing, because, having been born weakly, I thought nothing could make me strong; but I was sincerely seeking a better understanding of God. On page 425 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered;" and as I gained more faith in God and my faith in matter began to lessen, my constitution changed. There is now no trace of the various ills which made up that delicate condition, and for nine years I have not been absent from my daily work or taken any of the material remedies that used to seem so necessary. Various difficulties have arisen, including influenza, lumbago, tonsillitis, neuralgia, colds, and a sprained ankle, but all have been overcome through Christian Science treatment without absence from work.
At the time that I began to study Christian Science I was wearing glasses, also a body belt as a protection after an operation. One day I found that I had not been using my glasses for some time, nor worn the belt for several days. I had unconsciously discarded both; and it was a great joy when I realized that sight, being a spiritual quality, needs no material help for its expression, and that God is the only protector.
