I am filled with great gratitude for having come in touch...
I am filled with great gratitude for having come in touch with Christian Science. I had passed through severe illnesses of various kinds, but thought that I had to have them and that God sent them to me out of love. Though I certainly saw nothing of the love of God in them, and they did not bring me at all nearer to Him, I still persisted in the thought.
During the previous five years, owing to poisoning, I was very ill. There were such repeated sharp attacks that I was constantly under medical care, had to observe a strict diet, and for two consecutive years spent six or seven weeks in a hospital, where I had to endure much pain, partly owing to the treatment, which in the end was unbearable. Finally an operation was recommended to me. I did not consent to it, because I thought I should be no better, for I was in constant pain.
In May, 1930, I had another attack, and then someone told me a little about Christian Science. A practitioner came to see me and lovingly and patiently told me of its healing and liberating power. Since I was wholly ignorant of the subject I did not grasp it at first, and knew not how to apply it. Little by little it became clear to me that God's love did not send me sickness, but that the very presence of Love and Truth, and the recognition of God's might, takes from evil its apparent power, and that thereby sickness and sorrow disappear.
