One Handling

In the business of transportation the phrase "one handling" is familiar and important. The carrier who insures quick and direct transfer of goods gets the business, for the shipper desires to get his commodities to the consumer with the greatest speed and economy that circumstances permit. Rehandling of perishable goods means expense for labor, possible bruising or decay, delay in delivery, and possible loss of the best market price as well.

In the event of recourse to the law, one is gladdened by the prompt administration of justice; for delays are costly to all concerned. Reopening of a case means more court costs, and the time of principals and witnesses consumed, while private business must await conclusion of the case.

In the home, order and comfort are served by one handling of everything incident to its affairs. If a thing is not put into its right place when brought into the house, it must be rehandled. One busy and practical mother would call to her children, "One handling!" when possessions were misplaced; and she taught them also to help preserve the sense of order and harmony in the house by instilling the thought, Do it now!
