The Stone Rolled Away

In the four Gospels we find slightly varying accounts of the resurrection of our Lord. But, although worded somewhat differently, there are certain incidents connected with this event upon which the writers are in complete agreement, one of these being that the stone was rolled away from the sepulcher; and another, that Mary Magdalene was one of the first to make this discovery.

Students of Christian Science will be helped by a careful consideration of these two facts. Understanding so completely the unreality of matter, Jesus could, doubtless, just as easily have emerged from the tomb with the stone remaining, even as, soon after, he went through closed doors; but he probably knew that its removal was necessary to convince others that he had really risen. As ever, our Master gave positive proof of his understanding of God's allness. This is what Christian Scientists, at least in some degree, are also doing.

Is there residing in our consciousness some obstruction to Truth and Love upon which we have worked long and faithfully without any apparent result? And have we decided, perhaps, that as the condition is not troubling us very much we can continue to progress in spite of it? We should remember that, although we may believe that our own growth is not being affected, still this claim of obstruction may be the stone which must be rolled away before another can glimpse the risen Lord. Besides, is not the fact of our having become resigned, as it were, to the condition proof that we are accepting error as real, thus making its conquest impossible? For, while it is true that we can and do make progress with many problems still unsolved, we should not overlook the fact that there is a great difference between a still unsolved problem and one which we are making no further effort to solve.
