Having received so many benefits and healings through...
Having received so many benefits and healings through the study of Christian Science, I desire to express my gratitude and joy. Twelve years ago, owing to war work and worry, my health broke down, and many times I felt that death would be a blessing. Although an almost instantaneous and very gratifying healing through Christian Science had come to my wife, who had been an invalid for twelve years, I never inquired or desired to know how it had come about.
Religion to me had been a dead letter for many years; but "man's extremity" is "God's opportunity," as I saw afterwards, and divine Love was leading me on. I finally turned to Christian Science to study the subject and to see if it would do me any good. This I did without telling anybody, so that if no benefit were received, nobody would be the wiser. After four months of careful and earnest study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I found that I had been healed of many discordant conditions, several of which had troubled me since childhood. Some of these healings were of influenza, colds, constipation, chest troubles, so-called effects of east winds, cough, indigestion, kidney trouble, headaches, and many bad habits, all of which I had accepted as belonging to me and had never thought could be healed.
Although I was grateful at the time for these healings, yet I said to myself that I would give them all up if I could get the peace of mind for which I was seeking. Again divine Love was leading me on; for the study of the textbook was continued, and after three months' more study, one evening that which I so earnestly desired came, "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." Oh, what joy! the load was lifted; it was truly a foretaste of heaven! That evening the desire for smoking went. I had tried many times through human will-power to give up smoking, but had failed. The desire for intoxicating liquors went also. I was puzzled as to how these healings had come about until I came to see that it was through transformed thinking. Then I knew it was Christian Science that had brought this transformation about by helping me to understand the truth that sets free.
