Our High Purpose

The question, "What is it all for?" is worth asking, if we sincerely desire the answer. So much of the confusion, darkness, and uncertainty of life is caused by meaningless pursuits or selfish purposes that it might be well to pause a moment to find out if in our activities we are just running to and fro, or if behind our doings there is a purpose that reaches up to God.

How interesting it is to follow the course of a great river as it threads its way in and out of the valleys, around the forests, and tumbles on and on over great ledges of rock, the little streams coming from near and far to join it on its steady course. Where, asks the little child, is it going? And how many of us have answered, To find the great mother-ocean, that it may be one with it.

What of our lives? Have we, too, like the river, a course to run, a Father-Mother to find? And are all our little daily activities joining in this mighty purpose? Jesus said: "Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth." This was his great life-purpose; and as he followed it the sick and sinning were healed, and comfort and joy were brought to a waiting world. Jesus bore witness to the truth that God is Love, and he gave clear evidence and proof of this through every act of his life.
