At Sunrise—Easter Day

A first faint beam of morn,
A thread of gold,
And dimming shadows clear away
To let the light unfold
A winding trail,
Where countless steps still climb
To praise the risen Lord,
With love and faith sublime.

Each step has guided upward,
Though fraught with griefs and fears;
The way, the truth has lighted,
Though sometimes dimmed with tears.
Each loving thought and kindly deed
Its mission has fulfilled,
To cheer and light the paths of earth,
As Love divine has willed;
And as each heart is born anew,
And mists are rolled away,
A prayer, a hymn, is raised to greet
The dawn of Easter Day.
