The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

CLEVELAND, OHIO (Third Church).

Lecturer: Miss M. Ethel Whitcomb; introduced by Mrs. Olga G. Sheridan, who said:—

The Bible contains many accounts of angels who came bringing messages of hope or joy or comfort for mankind. But the thought of Christendom turns naturally and spontaneously to the angel song which heralded the birth of Jesus the Christ. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men," was the refrain which the angelic host sang. That song was the basis of Jesus' marvelous life. His words and his works demonstrated it. Tradition, superstition, creed, and dogma, however, hid the spiritual import and the practicability of these messages until in our time a spiritual genius, Mary Baker Eddy, gave to the world not only their meaning, but also an understanding of the law which underlies them.
