The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Buffalo, New York (First Church).

Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Raymond C. Harrison, who said:—

The history of mankind is the story of an unending quest for truth. During the dark days of the world war, on the shell-torn fields of France, I tried to find my way out of darkness. The mystery of my being, my life, my destiny seemed quite insoluble. I was engaged in a search for that God of whom we read, "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." To this end I read my Bible from cover to cover, and found many beautiful promises of protection and deliverance. But it was not until I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, that these truths began to be fulfilled. There is need to-day for faith and hope and comfort. Mankind is, indeed, engaged in a wearisome search for the promised land. Yet this persistent, almost tragic, struggle for light has not been unrewarded. The veil of the temple has been rent in twain, affording glimpses of the Holy of Holies within. Christian Science comes with a message of faith for the troubled and doubting, of hope for the downcast and the faint-hearted, of comfort for the miserable and the sorrowing.
