Signs of the Times

[Editorial in the Frederick Leader, Oklahoma]

A well-known southern editor and publisher, whose newspaper is noted for the high character of its service to its readers and the community, is in the habit of saying to those who would sometimes alter his strict policies, "The paper doesn't belong to me—I belong to the paper." This man has conceived his newspaper as an agency for public good, and holds sacred his understanding of his duty toward that newspaper as a living entity in the life of the community. It is his manifestation of good, and by holding fast to this idea he saves himself the dissatisfaction and the unhappiness that would be attendant on another course.
