The article appearing in the columns of your journal of October 11, on the subject of Christian Scientists' seeking the sacrament and other rites of the Anglican church, and the remarks of the Dean of Johannesburg thereto anent, does require explanation, which you have so kindly invited.

No member of the Christian Science church would think of applying for the sacrament of the Anglican church or of any other denomination, as he naturally avails himself of the Sacrament of his own church. In case of marriage, however, Christian Scientists seek the services of a minister of another denomination.

It would appear that dean's objection to his clergy's ministering (in whatever function he may have in mind) to Christian Scientists, is based on his opinion that they have no right to call themselves Christian people at all. His remarks in this respect are quite unjustified. Christian Scientists emphatically do regard themselves as a Christian people. Their faith is based on the teachings of Christ Jesus, and they are definitely and in a practical manner striving to follow in his footsteps and to carry out all his commands, including the one to heal the sick. Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."
