I am prompted to ask, after reading the report in the Guardian of a clergyman's address at the anniversary of the General Hospital, Why should it be thought an incredible thing that God should heal the sick by spiritual means? Jesus healed the sick; he taught his disciples and others how to do it; he commanded his followers to do the same. Healing work was accomplished by the early Christians during the first three centuries of the Christian era. There is a constant stream of healing work recorded throughout the Bible, and all by spiritual means. These achievements were truly remarkable. One would naturally expect that every effort would be made to know the method of this healing.

The works of Jesus the rabbis of old could not repeat, and they accused him of working through the exercise of occult powers. To-day primitive Christian healing on a scientific basis is again established in our midst through the discovery by Mary Baker Eddy in 1866 of the laws of Life, Truth, and Love. Mrs. Eddy says in her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 313): "Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause." The works of Jesus and his disciples, through her discovery, are now being performed in our age. History repeats itself, and we are now told that the method of Jesus was wrong, was unscientific, and must not be practiced by Christians. Christian Science will, however, continue its mighty healing works undisturbed by such onslaughts, until the world recognizes that Christian Science has nothing in common with occultism, suggestion, psychic power, or any other power of the so-called human mind, but that it always operates through the eternal, impersonal Christ, Truth, which destroys the false beliefs of the human mind.

The action of the Christ, Truth, in human consciousness can heal most malignant disease or odious sin. Christian Science practitioners not only know this but demonstrate it.
