"Our Father which art in heaven"

The close study of the Lord's Prayer, with its spiritual interpretation given by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on pages 16 and 17 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," leads to the true understanding of the law, as given by Moses.

The First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," requires of us that we know but one Father-Mother God. On page 340 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes: "The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the triunity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind." And she shows us that the fulfillment of this commandment will heal the world; that as the human race recognizes one supreme God, and is obedient to Him, sin, sickness, and death will cease, and the brotherhood of man will be demonstrated.

Christ Jesus knew the necessity for a change in the human concept of God, a change from the belief in a God who knows good and evil, love and hate, to the spiritual understanding of Him as Love, In his immortal prayer he gently leads thought to the divine truth, presenting God as the Father of man; as "Our Father which art in heaven." How easy it is to know God as our loving Father or, as Mrs. Eddy puts it, as "Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious."
