A recent issue (July 2) of your paper contained an extract of a sermon delivered at the Baptist tabernacle in your city, wherein the minister classified Christian Science with Mohammedanism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and theosophy, and stated that "every religion in the world is identified by some name or has some name or names very closely associated with it." He further implied that Christian Science is not Christian by the following statement: "A name also identifies the Christian faith—the name of Jesus. The entire value of Christianity lies in that name."

Rightfully, the name of Mary Baker Eddy is associated with the Christian Science religion as its Discoverer and Founder, and the author of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other writings.

To emphasize the value which Christian Science places on "the value of Christianity" as Jesus taught it, Mrs. Eddy, throughout all her writings, repeatedly admonishes her followers to follow the teachings and example of Jesus, "not merely in the name of Christ, or Truth, but in demonstration of Truth" (Science and Health, p. 135)—in going about doing good and healing the sick. On page 24 of her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 she writes, "I found it necessary to follow Jesus' teachings, and none other, in order to demonstrate the divine Science of Christianity—the metaphysics of Christ—healing all manner of diseases." Farther on in the same message she says (p. 34), "Wait patiently on God; . . . study the Bible . . . and follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ."
