The article entitled "From the Chinese Bible," which appeared in the New York Sun on May 28 in a communication from Shang-Ti, contains a reference to Christian Science which is confusing. I would appreciate the opportunity to clear up this confusion.

After speaking of the "immaterial principle" and "primary matter," the writer asks the question, "Isn't Christian Science based upon this theory of matter being a manifestation of mind?" As a matter of fact, the Christian Science religion is based upon the Bible, and more particularly upon the words and works of Christ Jesus and of the prophets and apostles.

Christian Scientists are taught that God, the creator of all, is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. Therefore, He is the only power, the only actual Being. To use a definition given in a dictionary, "God: The Supreme Being conceived of as the dominant or ultimate Principle of the universe." Christian Scientists are taught that God is worthy to be considered all-sufficient and all-powerful in His relationship to man. They are also taught to look to God, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases," as the source of all being, all substance, all health. It is not the human so-called mind, it is the divine Mind, which is all-wise and all-powerful, for that Mind is God.
