The Perfect Day

Humanity is looking for surcease from daily cares. Many people bear not alone the burden of to-day, but, as one has declared, they bear three troubles at a time—"all they have had, all they have now, and all they expect to have." Freedom from these cares is greatly desired, and many persons are seeking a remedy for them. The remedy, however, is not found in materiality, for the shadows of yesterday, the heaviness of to-day, and the fears for tomorrow are not to be lifted or overcome by material means. But they can be destroyed by spiritual sense, by the light of spiritual understanding as revealed in Christian Science. In all her writings Mrs. Eddy asserts that the inspired Word of the Bible, properly understood through Christian Science, is the true remedy for every ill.

In the Glossary to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 584) Mrs. Eddy defines "day" as "the irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love." Then she tells us, further, that "the objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there.' "

This metaphysical meaning of the word "day" is an aid in destroying fear of the present, the future, and the past. It brings to view the day God has created, the day in which neither uncertainty nor apprehension appears. God's day is a state of harmony, not a period of time. It is a period of spiritual enlightenment and development, a period in which Life, Truth, and Love unfold God's perfect, infinite plan, a plan reflected by the real man. Thus we see that nothing baneful or offensive enters into God's day; for God, divine Mind, Life, Truth, and Love, is the author of His own perfect day and governs its unfoldment.
