Reason

In the February issue of Reason two articles made various mistaken references to Christian Science, and thereby did an injustice to Mary Baker Eddy and the religion she established.

For instance, one of the articles discussed the words, "All is mind," and erroneously implied that there is a tenet of the Christian Science church that all is mortal or carnal mind; whereas, there is no such tenet or teaching in our religion. On the contrary, Mrs. Eddy iterates and reiterates the allness of God, divine Mind, the nothingness of matter, and the unreality of the carnal or mortal mind. Furthermore, she says positively that the so-called human mind is not a spiritual factor in the healing work of Christian Science.

On page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." The term "infinite Mind," or God, is diametrically opposite to mortal mind or carnal mind, which Paul designated as "enmity against God."
