God has been my only physician all through my life

God has been my only physician all through my life. The truths set forth in the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy have inspired and strengthened, and when faithfully relied upon, have guided, guarded, and sustained me. The following testimony is only one of the many that I might give to support the fact that the operation of God's law is ever available.

At the age of eighteen I met with an accident while at work one day. Several men and I were raising a large derrick to its place. The derrick was difficult to handle, but in some way we had always managed to control it, though the method used was very crude and not at all safe. On this particular occasion, however, when the derrick was nearly in an upright position, something went wrong and it became unmanageable. In an instant it was hurling itself to the earth and men were running in all directions to avoid it. Standing erect, its top would have reached the height of approximately twenty-five feet. I had nearly cleared this distance from its base when it struck, catching me beneath it, crushing me to the ground with the weight of several hundred pounds resting across my shoulders and my left leg, which was doubled under my body. The knee was turned out of the joint and the thigh bone broken and shattered. My teeth were loosened, and a splinter of wood the size of a toothpick had pierced the cheek into my mouth. My face and body were badly bruised from the impact.

My father was near by and came at once, but it was some time before my mother reached me, as our home was in the mountains more than a mile away. There being broken bones, my parents sent for the nearest doctor, sixteen miles away. At the same time, a telegram was sent to a Christian Science practitioner in Denver for help. It was many hours before the doctor arrived, as there were no telephones or automobiles and travel was by horse. During this time I had been either unconscious or delirious with fear and pain, but before the doctor reached our home I was feeling much easier. The sense of fear had gone, and along with it the extreme pain. The doctor made an examination, but did not undertake to set the bones. Neither he nor any other person performed this operation, but through God's law of adjustment the operation was complete. The result was remarkable. The broken bones began to knit at once. Within two weeks I was able to get out of doors with help, and in three weeks was walking about with the use of crutches. The healing of the broken bones was perfect. The teeth again grew firm and straight, and the bruises on my body and face, as well as some places where the flesh had been cut, healed without leaving a scar. One condition did not readily adjust itself, however: the lower part of the leg had not straightened, but hung helplessly from the knee with the foot inclined to turn backward. Work was continued in Christian Science, and the condition gradually improved and the healing became complete. The entire limb has since been perfectly normal in every way. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 66), "Trails are proofs of God's care." The above healing was indeed such a proof. A greater spiritual understanding was gained, and many subsequent blessings have come to me because of this.
