[Written for the Sentinel]

Awakening

I slept ! Fear lay upon me, shadowlike,
Filled with the dark foreboding of the dreams
Of finite sense. The days were long and dark,
Spent somberly or lightened but to pass
To deeper darkness. Underneath my feet
Was no foundation;
and my troubled soul
Found no abiding place, no peace, no rest.
I knew not God.

I woke—found God as Father-Mother Love,
The Principle of all the universe.
No more dwell I with shadows; all my days
Are spent rejoicingly. Beneath my feet
The firmament of Truth. Encircled by
The everlasting arms of Love divine,
Within God's law omnipotent, I rest.
Now know I God.
