[Original testimony in German]
More than five years ago I came to Christian Science,...
More than five years ago I came to Christian Science, broken down mentally and physically. For nearly fifteen years I had been under medical treatment for heart and kidney trouble which physicians considered incurable. I had a miserable life and awaited release by death. To make my cup of misery full, I was attacked more than five years ago by an even worse complaint. I noticed that my neck was becoming more and more swollen; and at the same time I had difficult in breathing, which finally grew so bad that I was obliged to spend the night sitting up in bed or at an open window. The doctor whom I consulted said I was suffering from diseased thyroid glands. Owing to this a goiter had formed, which was all the more dangerous as it was growing inward.
I begged the doctor to give me something to relieve my suffering, but he replied I could be saved only by an operation, which must be performed as quickly as possible. But neither my husband nor I could decide to have the operation performed, because, owing to the heart trouble, it would have to be done while I was conscious; and as I was so weak we felt I might not life through it. My sufferings increased from day to day.
Then in my great extremity I heard of Christian Science through a family with whom I am acquainted. I began to attend the Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings, where it soon became clear to me that I had found the right way. I clung to the words, "God is Love" and "God is my Life." Just by attending the services my difficulties decreased; but I felt I could not overcome the sickness alone, so I asked a dear practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. After five weeks of Christian Science treatment I was perfectly healed. The goiter had disappeared, and my heart troubled me no longer.
