I might not have made the effort to gain a clear understanding...
I might not have made the effort to gain a clear understanding of Christian Science had it not been for an unpleasant experience of an ingrown nail on the great toe of each foot. After trying almost every material remedy offered, I decided that if there was any other possible way out of the seeming condition I was going to do all I could to be free. So I started studying the Christian Science Lesson-Sermons, as given to us in the Christian Science Quarterly, desiring more light. This light was given to me, and the unpleasant condition left me entirely. Needless to say, there has not been a sign of the return to that difficulty; nor have I any fear of ever having that one to overcome again.
I had another experience which also proved to me the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of God. I was riding a mustang, a western pony. The owner told me before starting that the horse was afraid of automobiles coming toward it, but was not afraid of them when coming from behind. So, whenever a car came along I would turn down a side street or into a private drive until the machine had passed, and then I would continue on the road again. On reaching the edge of the town I met a machine, and the horse became frightened and reared. In the excitement I pulled too hard on the reins, and the horse fell backward on me on a concrete road. I am very thankful to say that I received only a scratched elbow and finger through this fall. After readjusting the saddle I rode around about an hour and a half. This experience was another proof to me that we do live, move, and have our being in the infinite God, good; that we are "heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ," enjoying true peace.
